About Us

There are complex challenges in improving pathways for remote Australians through education and training to employment and enterprise development. Current approaches have failed to deliver. The rate of completion of year 12 in remote regions of Australia is only 57% for non-Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander and 22% for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students. Completion rates this low severely limit these students’ ability to participate in the economy.

Education is vital to sustaining the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander cultures and traditions, while equipping with them with the knowledge and tools essential for future growth. This post provides an interesting perspective on the matter.

One of CRC-REP’s key focuses, through its Investing in People program, is to create an enduring legacy of human capital that will be able to research, teach and train in the area of remote economic participation for decades to come.

We will:

  • train at least 25 postgraduate students (PhD and MSc)
  • host at least 15 undergraduate, vocational and vacation placements
  • ensure that at least 70 Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander researchers are trained and paid during our research lifetime
  • facilitate the creation of new businesses by building the skills of potential entrepreneurs through the RemoteBiz™ platform in partnership with successful Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander entrepreneurs.

Meet those already on board.

Any students considering vocational, undergraduate or postgraduate study in a remote region are strongly encouraged to contact Kevin Williams, General Manager Research Evaluation and Impact at kevin.williams@nintione.com.au or phone +61 8 8211 0431 to discuss the possibilities and opportunities available to remote students through CRC-REP’s sponsorship and scholarship schemes.
