Awards for a brighter remote Australia
The CRC for Remote Economic Participation announced today it is looking for twenty-four of the nation’s most highly-motivated postgraduates to help in developing a brighter future for remote Australians.
“Between 2011 and 2014 we’re committed to training at least 24 postgraduate students at doctoral, masters and honours level, including a number of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander postgrads,” a CRC-REP Education Manager Wendy Cowan says. “This is a wonderful opportunity for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students to gain qualifications and work with an extended group of researchers.
“They’ll be doing real research with direct benefit to the jobs, lives, enterprises and communities of remote Australia. They will be supported by industry and research mentors, and will have numerous professional learning opportunities.”
The research areas where the students will work cover:
- Population mobility and labour markets
- Enduring community value from mining
- Climate adaptation and energy futures in remote Australia
- Precision pastoralism management tools
- Bush plant economies
- Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander art economies
- Remote education systems
- Interplay between health, wellbeing, education and employment
- Carbon economies in remote Australia
- Pathways to employment.
”A limited number of full scholarships valued at $23,000 per annum for three years is available through a competitive application process – totalling $69K. This is a clear signal of the importance of the work they are doing.
“All successful CRC-REP postgrads receive a generous top-up scholarship worth $6,000 a year, plus operational funds to cover expenses such as travel to national and international conferences,” Ms Cowan says.
The CRC-REP postgraduates will be part of a knowledge network involving fellow students, research leaders and industry through an active learning hub that will keep them informed and connected to their respective research areas.
