At the CRC-REP, learning new things and sharing what we already know is a key part of business. The Education Program The Education Program is integral to all of our research activities. Our work is about building the knowledge base of remote Australia through education, training and capacity change.
There are complex challenges in improving pathways for remote Australians through education and training to employment and enterprise development. Current approaches have failed to deliver. The rate of completion of year 12 in remote regions of Australia is only 57% for non-Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander and 22% for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students. Completion rates this low severely limit these students’ ability to participate in the economy.
Much of Australia's wealth is created in our remote regions, yet many of the people who live there are excluded from the economy. The impact of this on the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander population in particular is acknowledged by the Council of Australian Governments (COAG) as a national policy priority through the National Indigenous Reform Agreement (Closing the Gap).
The Cooperative Research Centre for Remote Economic Participation (CRC-REP) is focused on delivering solutions to the economic disadvantage that affects remote Australia. Through our research, CRC-REP provides practical responses to the complex issues that can restrict full economic participation.
